  • Exceptionally rare first print of the first edition, with only one price indication in florin: "Pr..FL:10.", very nice copy. - Paer's "Camilla" popularized the type of revolutionary rescue opera in Germany. At the premiere in Vienna in 1799, Elisabeth Cannabich sang the title role. Hoffmann held "Camilla" in higher esteem than any of Paer's other operas, recognizing here an inclination toward "serious, German music." This "most dramatic" opera by Paer is distinguished above all by the "precision" of the movement and the art of characterization (HWW Schriften zur Musik, 69, 293). - PEM 4, 621; Eitner VII, 279; BSB 12, 4817; not RISM, Voerster H.-Forschung 1966, p.30.
