EXTREMELY RARE AND ONLY AVAILABLE EARLY EDITION IN TRADE! Very rare second edition, which has a special significance, because the first edition of 1747 is not traceable for us in trade over a century since Liepmannson 1924 and Wolffheim 1928. Therefore, this second edition is the only early edition of this important composition with the wellknown special genesis that is available in the antiquarian trade, but it is also extremely rare. We have only been able to find 3 copies in the antiquarian trade in the last 50 years. - The present second printing is to be seen in connection with the rediscovery of Bach in the 19th century. After the original edition of 1747, the earliest edition of the "Musical Offering". With a preface about the creation of the work as well as Bach's dedication to Frederick the Great. Until Breitkopf's printing, the composition was hardly available, as only a few copies of the first printing were printed and only a few have survived, all of which are now listed in libraries. The review in the AMZ Jan. 1832 praises the 1831 edition as an "unsurpassable model of correctness" - Povenence: with handwritten entry on the cover verso "Once Robert Volkmann property (acquired in 1907 by Gilhofer eR., Vienna) Hans Volkmann. Robert Volkmann (1815-1883) was a German composer stylistically between Schumann and Brahms. He spent part of his education in Leipzig with the cantor of the Nikolaikirche, became professor of composition at the Landesakademie in Budapest from 1875, and thus became more intensely interested in Bach as well.
