A VERY SPECIAL WAGNER CIMELIA: ONE OF THE FIRST COPIES WITH THE FINAL STATE OF THE OPERA IMPORTANT SOURCE DOCUMENT OF THE EDITION AND PERFORMANCE HISTORY The present copy, which is not mentioned and listed in the wagner literature and bibliographies, represents, probably as a unique copy, a most interesting intermediate state of the edition history of the score between the first and the second edition. The first edition, based on a copyist's manuscript, was published in an autograph reprinting process with 25 or 30 copies financed by R. Wagner himself in late 1944 or early 1845 by C.F. Meser, who then distributed it on commission. The printing of the second edition, again as a lithograph of the score, however, did not appear until over 50 years later and 14 years after the composer's death, as a second edition in 1897 by Fürstner in Berlin with 415 pages, edited by F. Weingartner after the reworking of the instrumentation completed by Wagner in 1846, the correction of some errors, and the partial reworking of his youth opera made by Wagner in 1860 in connection with the performance of the overture for a Paris concert. Wagner changed the ending of the overture and opera in 1860, twice adding 10 measures with the redemption and ascent of Senta and the Dutchman from the ocean tides into the clear blue of the sky. The present score, several times handwritten and dated with the stamp "Adolph Fürstner Berlin 27 Jan 1874", contains these corrections by Wagner and is therefore to be regarded as one of the first documents with the "final status" of the composer. It also represents, with the composer's arrangements, the then current state for performance practice and is at the same time an important source document for the second lithographed edition by Fürstner. The present edition of the score includes the opera parts (Overture, Second Act No. 4 "Song, Scene, Ballad and Chorus" and Third Act, No. 7 "Chorus of Norwegian Sailors") published and printed by C.F. Meser (Adolph Fürstner and Hermann Müller, respectively) up to that time and is completed with a copyist's manuscript for the remainder of the opera of the opera. This copy of the score is a most interesting intermediate state of the edition of this opera, 30 years after the autograph first edition and 23 years before the second edition of 1897. It can be assumed that this score was compiled by Fürstner for a performance in Magdeburg, which took place under Carl Hülse, who was conductor there from 1869-77. The entries of notes and metronome markings are interesting. The handwritten parts of the score are characterized by a high degree of legibility. EINE GANZ BESONDERE WAGNER CIMELIE EINES DER ERSTEN EXEMPLARE MIT DEM FINALEN STAND DER OPER BEDEUTENDES QUELLENDOKUMENT DER EDITIONS- UND AUFFÜHRUNGSGESCHICHTE Das vorliegende Exemplar, das in der Wagner-Literatur und -Bibliographien nicht erwähnt und verzeichnet ist, stellt, wohl als Unikat, einen höchst interessanten Zwischenzustand der Editionsgeschichte der Partitur zwischen der ersten und der zweiten Ausgabe dar. Die Erstausgabe war nach der Handschrift eines Kopisten im autographierten Umdruckverfahren mit 25 oder 30 von R. Wagner selbst finanzierten Exemplaren Ende 1944 oder Anfang 1845 bei C.F. Meser erschienen, der diese dann kommissionsweise vertrieb. Der Druck der zweiten Ausgabe, wieder als Lithographie der Partitur erschien aber erst über 50 Jahre später und 14 Jahre nach dem Tod des Komponisten, 1897 bei Fürstner in Berlin mit 415 Seiten, herausgegeben von F. Weingartner nach der von Wagner 1846 vollzogenen Umarbeitung der Instrumentation, der Korrektur einiger Fehler und der 1860 durch Wagner im Zusammenhang mit der Aufführung der Ouvertüre für ein Pariser Konzert erstellten partiellen Umarbeitung seiner Jugendoper. Wagner änderte 1860 den Schluss von Ouvertüre und Oper und ergänzte zweimal 10 Takte mit der Erlösung und Aufstieg Sentas und des Holländers aus den Meeresfluten in das klare Himmelsblau. Die vorliegende Partitur mehrmals handschriftlich und mit dem Stempel "Adolph Fürstner Berlin 27. Jan 1874" datiert, beinhaltet diese Korrekturen Wagners und ist daher als eines der ersten Dokumente mit dem "finalen Stand" des Komponisten anzusehen. Es stellt zudem mit den Bearbeitungen des Komponisten den damals gültigen Stand für die Aufführungspraxis dar und ist zugleich ein wichtiges Quellendokument für die zweite lithographierte Ausgabe bei Fürstner. Die vorliegende Ausgabe der Partitur beinhaltet die bis dahin bei C.F. Meser (Adolph Fürstner bzw. Hermann Müller) erschienenen und gedruckten Opernteilen (Ouvertüre, Zweiter Aufzug No. 4 "Lied, Scene, Ballade und Chor" sowie Dritter Aufzug, No. 7 "Chor der Norwegischen Matrosen") und ist vervollständigt mit dem Manuskript eines Kopisten für den Rest der Oper der Oper. Dieses Exemplar der Partitur ist ein höchst interessanter Zwischenstand der Edition dieser Oper, 30 Jahre nach der autographierten Erstausgabe und 23 Jahre vor der zweiten Ausgabe von 1897. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass diese Partitur von Fürstner für eine Aufführung in Magdeburg zusammengestellt wurde, die unter Carl Hülse erfolgte, der dort 1869-77 als Dirigent tätig war. Interessant sind die Eintragungen von Anmerkungen und Metronomangaben. Die handgeschriebenen Teile der Partitur zeichnen sich durch eine hohe Lesbarkeit aus.
