KARL BÖHM’S WORKING SCORE: DEEP INSIGHT INTO HIS INTERPRETATION OF DON GIOVANNI Rarity of the first rank: Karl Böhm's Don Giovanni Conducting score and working copy of the famous conductor Karl Böhm, with his annotations and entries throughout. Interesting document on the performance practice of Mozart's opera "Don Juan". Böhm not only made many entries on the interpretation of the opera in his working copy, but also replaced numerous recitative scenes with a different version that he preferred. The edits to the German translation are interesting, most likely resulting from the fact that Böhm performed the opera in Hermann Levi's German version at the Residenztheater on August 22, 1925, as part of the Munich Festival, as can be seen from the program slip pasted on the back of the title page. Bruno Walter had brought Böhm to the opera from Graz to Munich in 1921. For Karl Böhm, Mozart had a very special significance: "my musical patron saint. All the love I have given him for many, many years, he has repaid me a thousandfold. He has always given me the courage not to despair of my profession even in difficult hours ..." (Böhm: Autobiography p. 150). - Karl Böhm received the score as a gift from his uncle three days after he had conducted his first opera, the "Trumpeter von Säckingen", on October 20, 1917, at the beginning of his conducting career, as is noted on the title page: "to my dear nephew Karl ... Heil Deiner Zukunft". Next to this dedication is the handwritten name "Karl Böhm Graz 1917". Further signatures of Böhm can be found on the endpapers of both volumes. Enclosed is another curiosity from Böhm's social life with a card with gold edge and imprinted text "Menu". Handwritten "In memory of the beautiful Christmas Eve 1956" with signatures of various guests, including Böhm's wife "Thea". The right half of the card contains the menu, typical for this period of the 50s. KARL BÖHMS ARBEITSPARTITUR: TIEFER EINBLICK IN SEINE INTERPRETATION VON DON GIOVANNI Rarität ersten Ranges! Dirigierpartitur und Arbeitsexemplar des berühmten Dirigenten Karl Böhm, durchgehend mit seinen Anmerkungen und Eintragungen. Interessantes Dokument zur Aufführungspraxis von Mozarts Oper "Don Juan". Böhm hat in seinem Arbeitsexemplar nicht nur viele Eintragungen zur Interpretation der Oper vorgenommen, sondern auch zahlreiche Rezitativ-Szenen ausgetauscht und diese durch eine andere Version ersetzt, die er bevorzugte. Interessant sind die Bearbeitungen der deutschen Übersetzung, die höchstwahrscheinlich daraus resultieren, dass Böhm am 22. August 1925 im Residenztheater im Rahmen der Münchener Festspiele die Oper in der deutschen Fassung von Hermann Levi aufgeführt hat, wie das aus dem auf der Rückseite des Titelblatts eingeklebten Programmzettel zu ersehen ist. Bruno Walter hatte 1921 Böhm von Graz nach München an die Oper geholt. Für Karl Böhm hatte Mozart eine ganz besondere Bedeutung: "mein musikalischer Schutzpatron. Alle meine Liebe, die ich ihm seit vielen, vielen Jahren schenkte, hat er mich tausendfach gelohnt. Er hat mir immer wieder den Mut gegeben, auch in schweren Stunden an meinem Beruf nicht zu verzweifeln ..." (Böhm: Autobiographie S. 150). - Die Partitur hat Karl Böhm drei Tage nachdem er seine erste Oper, den "Trompeter von Säckingen", dirigiert hatte, am 20. Oktober 1917 am Anfang seiner Dirigentenkarriere von seinem Onkel als Geschenk erhalten, wie auf dem Titelblatt vermerkt ist: "meinem lieben Neffen Karl ... Heil Deiner Zukunft". Neben dieser Widmung befindet sich der eigenhändige Namenszug "Karl Böhm Graz 1917". Weitere Namenszüge von Böhm befinden sich auf den Vorsatzpapieren beider Bände. Beiliegend befindet sich noch ein Kuriosum aus dem gesellschaftlichen Leben Böhms: eine Karte mit Goldrand und aufgedrucktem Text "Menu". Handschriftlich "Zur Erinnerung an den schönen Weihnachtsabend 1956" mit Unterschrift verschiedener Gäste, u.a. Böhms Ehefrau "Thea". Die rechte Kartenhälfte enthält die Speisenfolge, typisch für diese Zeit der 50er Jahre.
