  • Beautiful contemporary manuscript of the recitative and aria of Don Calloandro from the extremely popular musical comedy of the time, "L'amor contrastato," which premiered in Naples in 1788. Calloandro embodies the concubinous lover who falls madly in love with the beautiful miller's wife Rachelina and gives expression to his pain due to unrequited love in this recitative and the aria that follows. The opera also became known as "La Molinaria", the miller's wife, and was performed, albeit in sometimes heavily edited versions and under different titles, on numerous European stages as late as the 19th century.
